Kawhi Leonard is giving back to students in a major way by donating one million backpacks just in time for the start of the new school year.

According to CBS Los Angles, Kawhi has donated backpacks to every student in the Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Moreno Valley Unified school districts. The announcement was made as he made a visit to his alma mater, Cloverdale Elementary School.

The non-profit organization Baby2Baby partnered with Kawhi and the LA Clippers to make the donation possible.

In a statement, Kawhi talked about his contribution and said, “My goal this year is to make a meaningful contribution both on and off the court. This felt like the right way to get started. It was important to me to make this announcement in my hometown of Moreno Valley at my former Elementary School, but the benefits this program will have across all of Los Angeles makes today even more special.”

As many of you know, earlier this year’s Kawhi won the NBA Championship as a member of the Toronto Raptors. Following the season, he entered free agency and decided to a 3-year-contract with the Clippers.

Kawhi said to the students at her former elementary school, “I’m happy to be here. This is where it all started for me at Cloverdale. This is where the dream began. I know how hard it is for parents and students at the start of the school year, so I wanted to start here today by giving away a million backpacks to Southern California and to every student here today.”

He continued, “That’s one of my goals this year is to help on and off the court in a great way and I felt like this would be a great way to start. I hope you guys know the Clippers have your backs so long as you put in the work. Like I always say, just be great.”
